Fear of night storm, warning issued in 9 districts

Hundreds of thousands of people in various districts of Chittagong Division have faced disaster due to heavy rains and landslides coming down from upstream India. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Office has warned of gusty winds with a maximum speed of 60 km between 1 am in 9 districts of the country. There is also a possibility of rain with thunder.

This information was given in the weather forecast for the inland river ports of the country from 3 pm to 1 am on Saturday (August 24).

According to the forecast, rain with gusty winds of 45 to 60 km per hour or thunder may occur over Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar regions. The river ports in these areas have been instructed to display warning signal number 1.

Meanwhile, in the heavy rain warning issued for the next 48 hours, the Meteorological Office said that under the influence of active monsoon, some places in Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions may experience isolated heavy rains from 6 pm on August 24 in the next 48 hours. Due to heavy rain, there may be risk of landslides in some parts of the hilly areas of Chittagong division.

In a press release of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Saturday, it was informed that as a result of the landslides and heavy rains coming down from upstream, the flood situation has been created in the North-Eastern, Eastern and South-Eastern districts of the country. However, the water of major rivers is gradually decreasing.

Also, the water has not risen as there has been less rain in the last two days. At present, the water of 9 rivers of the country is flowing above the boundary and the water of 5 rivers is flowing below the boundary.
