A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to issue Local Warning Signal No. 3 for four of the country’s seaports. In a weather bulletin signed by meteorologist A.K.M. Nazmul Haque on Tuesday (July 1), authorities stated that the low-pressure zone is currently situated over Gangetic West Bengal and adjacent coastal regions of Bangladesh. Due to this system, a significant pressure gradient has developed over the northern Bay of Bengal, which may cause strong gusty or squally winds to sweep across the coastal areas and maritime ports.
As a precaution, maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three. Additionally, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been instructed to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
A separate inland warning, valid until 6 p.m. today, forecasts temporary squally winds blowing at 45 to 60 km/h from the southeast or east over districts including Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar. Rain or thunderstorms may accompany the wind.
The Met Office also predicts that light to moderate rain or thundershowers with occasional gusty winds may occur across all divisions of the country in the coming days. Some areas may experience moderately heavy rainfall. The current weather pattern, marked by thundershowers and gusty winds, is likely to persist through the week and may continue into the next.
