Law enforcement officials have recovered approximately Tk 3 lakh in cash from an apartment allegedly used by Abdur Razzak Riyad, a former leader of the Students Against Discrimination group who was previously expelled.
According to Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman, the recovery was made earlier today during a search operation.
Another official involved in the investigation stated that authorities suspect the cash may be linked to extortion-related activities and are currently working to verify the origin of the funds.
Riyad was taken into custody last Friday along with four others during a police raid at the residence of former Awami League MP Shammi Ahmed. An extortion case has since been filed against the group.
In addition to the cash, police also reportedly found cheques totaling approximately Tk 2.25 crore during a separate search of Riyad’s home.
