At a discussion organized by the July Warriors on Saturday evening (August 2) at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, Farida Akhter emphasized that no fair election can occur without legal accountability for Sheikh Hasina.
> “Justice for Sheikh Hasina must be delivered on this very land,” she said, asserting that any future government must not delay or hand over this responsibility to another regime. She stressed that it is the responsibility of the current transitional government to carry out this process.
Akhter further criticized attempts to bring about political change within the current constitutional and state framework, stating it would be ineffective in bringing real reform.
During the same event, Sarjis Alam, a key organizer for the National Citizen Party (NCP) in the northern region, warned that some political activists were aligning with powerful interests for personal gain.
> “We must not allow corrupt individuals to hijack the sacrifices of the July warriors by trading their legacy for money,” he said, warning against corruption and misuse of the movement’s identity.
He alleged that certain individuals are falsely presenting themselves as movement coordinators to engage in unethical practices and stressed the need for strict legal action against them.
Dr. Tasnim Jara, senior joint secretary of the NCP, accused the government of negligence in providing proper medical care to injured protesters from the July movement. She firmly stated that fascism should not be allowed to re-emerge in any form in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, BNP Vice Chairman Dr. Asaduzzaman Ripon highlighted the need for a truly elected and accountable government to establish good governance.
Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, general secretary of the AB Party, warned that defeated political forces are working with domestic allies from abroad to create unrest in the country. He urged the public to remain vigilant.
At the end of the event, scholarships were awarded to injured students from the July movement, and a plan to distribute auto-rickshaws to 50 injured individuals was also announced.
