The government has reassigned 76 police officers, including 11 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), who were previously designated as Officers on Special Duty (OSD), to various police ranges, districts, and units across the country. The sudden move has sparked discussions within administrative circles, as many of these officials were residing in Dhaka despite their OSD status.

According to multiple sources within the Public Security Division, these officers, removed from active posts following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, had remained in Dhaka and were reportedly holding meetings in small groups. Intelligence reports suggest that some discussions during these gatherings were critical of the current administration.

There have also been widespread concerns about the potential leakage of sensitive government documents. As a precaution, the authorities decided to disperse the officers to different units across the country in order to prevent possible conspiracies or secret meetings in the capital.

When contacted, Assistant Inspector General (AIG - Media & PR) A.H.M. Shahadat Hossain of the Police Headquarters confirmed that the decision to reassign the OSD officers was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

A circular issued by the Public Security Division on Wednesday, August 6, detailed the reassignment of these 76 officers to various posts nationwide.

Among the reassigned DIGs:

• Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman was posted to Rangpur Range,

• Miraj Uddin Ahmed and Md. Elias Sharif to Sylhet Range,

• Md. Zakir Hossain Khan and Md. Shah Abid Hossain to Chattogram Range,

• Syed Nurul Islam to Rangpur Range,

• Jihadul Kabir to Chattogram Range,

• Md. Moniruzzaman to Sylhet Range,

• Md. Mahbubur Rahman to Khulna Range,

and Moinul Haque and SM Mostaq Ahmed Khan were assigned to the Rajshahi Police Academy.

This strategic redistribution aims to limit coordinated activity among the officers who were once in influential positions under the previous regime.
