Nahid Islam, the Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the interim government, recently spoke in detail about his political stance and the current government’s activities in an interview with the German media outlet Deutsche Welle. He emphasized that they came to power with the intention of implementing the promises made during the mass uprising. Although they were previously on the streets protesting, they are now in government with the same goals. Despite some changes in methods, their role remains unchanged.

Nahid stated, “We used to be on the streets and engaged in protests. Our aim was to dismantle the fascist regime and build a new Bangladesh. Now that we are in government, our goal remains the same. We want to create a society where social justice and democracy are firmly established.”

Regarding his own political journey, Nahid explained, “Initially, I did not have personal plans to actively engage in politics. However, due to the mass uprising, I was compelled to assume a role as a representative of the people. I am currently serving in the government and fulfilling my responsibilities. If the public desires or provides me with an opportunity, I am prepared to take on a more significant political role in the future.”

He further noted, “Even though we are in government, we continue to work towards the same principles of justice that we advocated while on the streets. The only difference is in the method of coming to power. Our ethical stance and goals remain unchanged. We are striving to implement the demands of the people while in government.”

In the interview, Nahid Islam particularly highlighted that the government’s primary objective is to dismantle a fascist framework and establish a societal system where human rights are guaranteed and democratic governance is strengthened.
