Hasnat Abdullah, the convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, remarked that the interim government's leniency toward enablers of fascism will burden this unfortunate nation indefinitely.
On Thursday (December 26) at 10:30 a.m., he shared this statement on his verified Facebook profile. In the post, he wrote, "The interim government's generosity toward fascism's enablers will haunt this ill-fated nation forever. The same enablers, who thrived under Hasina’s regime, are now campaigning under the guise of human rights to garner sympathy for fascists. If this campaign is not stopped, no one will be safe — today it’s bureaucrats, tomorrow it could be anyone else."
It is noteworthy that following the fall of the autocracy, achieved at the cost of 2,000 lives, the interim government has failed to meet public expectations. Many remnants of the former fascist regime remain intact, with collaborators continuing to benefit while justice for past atrocities, including the prosecution of genocide perpetrators, remains elusive.
Since the new government took charge, incidents of disruption have been frequent, the latest being a fire at Bangladesh's Secretariat, the administrative hub. Hasnat Abdullah made his comments in response to this incident.
