Police have confirmed that body parts recovered separately from several locations in Chattogram’s Bayezid area belong to a young man named Md Anis, a resident of Raozan upazila in the district.
According to police, a woman allegedly invited Anis to her residence, where she first struck him on the head with a heavy stone pestle used for grinding spices. With the help of two others, Anis was then killed by slitting his throat. His body was later cut into six pieces using a sharp weapon, and the remains were dumped in nearby canals and waste disposal sites.
A press briefing was held on Friday night at Bayezid Police Station following the recovery of Anis’s body and the arrest of three suspects. During the briefing, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (North), Amirul Islam, detailed the sequence of events.
Police said Anis worked as a butcher. The arrested woman told investigators that she called him to her house in the Oxygen Shahidnagar area on Wednesday afternoon. After attacking him with the pestle, she sought assistance from her brother and another man to ensure his death. Afterward, both hands and legs were severed, and the body was divided into six parts, wrapped in plastic, and disposed of in nearby areas.
On Thursday evening, local residents noticed dogs dragging two plastic-wrapped hands and alerted the police. Officers later recovered two hands and two legs, and fingerprint analysis was used to confirm Anis’s identity. Tracking his mobile phone call records led police to arrest the woman and two accomplices. The remaining body parts, including the head, were subsequently recovered.
Police officials stated that the woman is married and had been in a relationship with Anis for about five years. Recent disputes between them are believed to have led to the killing.
Bayezid Bostami Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahedul Kabir said the woman claimed Anis had been blackmailing her using personal photographs. However, Anis’s family denied this allegation, stating instead that the woman owed him Tk 200,000 and that the murder was committed after he demanded repayment. Police said the matter will be clarified through investigation.
A murder case has been filed in connection with the incident, and the three accused are scheduled to be produced before a court on Saturday.
