The Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) has expressed deep concern and strong condemnation over the brutal public murder of journalist Md Asaduzzaman Tuhin in Gazipur.
In a statement released Friday, DUJ President Sajjad Alam Khan Topu and General Secretary Akhter Hossain stated that such a heinous act is unacceptable in any civilized society.
They highlighted the widespread shock across the nation following the attack and criticized the delayed response from law enforcement authorities, noting that no arrests had been made within 24 hours of the incident.
This lack of prompt action has heightened fears among journalists about their safety and security.
DUJ demanded the immediate apprehension of the culprits and called for strict punishment. They also urged authorities to ensure a safe working environment for journalists throughout Bangladesh, emphasizing that justice and protection are vital to uphold independent journalism.
Md Asaduzzaman Tuhin, aged 39 and a reporter for Dainik Protidiner Kagoj, was viciously attacked with sharp weapons in public near Chowrasta on Thursday night, resulting in his death.
