A mild heatwave has been affecting different parts of the country since the beginning of April. This Friday, mild to moderate heatwaves were recorded in at least 27 districts, and the conditions may continue in several areas on Saturday, according to the Meteorological Department.
The highest temperature today was recorded in Chuadanga, which also saw the country’s peak temperature yesterday. Temperatures in the capital have also risen compared to the previous day.
Officials reported that heatwaves are sweeping across all districts in the Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, along with nine additional districts including Dhaka. These other affected districts are Faridpur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Narayanganj, Chandpur, Rangamati, Barishal, and Patuakhali.
A mild heatwave is defined when temperatures range between 36°C and 37.9°C, while 38°C to 39.9°C is considered moderate. Severe heatwaves occur between 40°C and 41.9°C, and anything above 42°C is classified as an extreme heatwave. Some areas today experienced moderate levels.
Chuadanga recorded the highest temperature at 39.7°C, followed by Rajshahi at 39.5°C. In Dhaka, the temperature reached 36.1°C today, up from 35.5°C yesterday.
Meteorologists indicate that the heatwave may persist in parts of the country on Sunday as well, although some regions could see storms and rainfall, which may temporarily reduce the heat.
