Due to the panic caused among teachers and students following the earthquake, and injuries sustained by several students while rushing down staircases, Dhaka University has announced the suspension of all classes and exams tomorrow, Sunday. This information was released in a statement by the university’s Public Relations Office last night.
The statement noted that classes and exams within the university will remain suspended on November 23 because some students were injured and widespread panic ensued. The revised schedule for the postponed exams will be announced later.
Earlier today, around 6 PM, two minor earthquakes struck Dhaka within a span of one second. During the tremors, several students panicked while evacuating student halls, resulting in injuries: three students at Shamsun Nahar Hall, one at Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, and one at Rokeya Hall.
This follows a moderate earthquake yesterday morning, during which at least four students sustained serious injuries after jumping from university hall buildings in fear. In total, at least ten students have been reported injured at Dhaka University. Additionally, parts of the ceilings in several halls, including Mohsin Hall, were damaged by the earthquake.
