Chief Advisor Pays Tribute to Martyrs at National Memorial

Savar, Bangladesh – On the occasion of Victory Day, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, laid a wreath at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to honor the heroes of the 1971 Liberation War.

The ceremony took place early Tuesday morning at 6:56 a.m., when Professor Yunus paid silent tribute to the memory of the nation’s martyred freedom fighters. A ceremonial guard from the Army, Navy, and Air Force rendered a state salute, accompanied by the solemn sound of the bugle. After the wreath-laying, the Chief Advisor signed the visitor’s book at the memorial.

Also present were the Chief Justice, other advisors of the Interim Government, heads of the three armed services, veteran freedom fighters, diplomats, and senior civilian and military officials.

Throughout the day, the nation is commemorating Victory Day with various programs to honor those who sacrificed their lives for Bangladesh’s independence in 1971. On December 16, 1971, following the nine-month Liberation War, Bangladesh emerged as a sovereign nation, achieved through the sacrifice of three million martyrs and the suffering of nearly 200,000 women.

Alongside government initiatives, political parties, cultural and social organizations, and educational institutions have organized a series of events to observe this historic day.
