Mustafizur Rahman is currently at the center of discussion in South Asian cricket. After Bangladesh was denied permission to release him for the IPL, the country decided not to send its team to play in the T20 World Cup in India. Yet, none of this controversy seems to have affected Mustafizur personally.
On social media, he is seen sharing moments with his wife or enjoying nature in Sylhet during breaks from the BPL. Many are curious about what Mustafizur is really like off the field.
Rangpur Riders head coach Mickey Arthur shared his perspective on the left-arm pacer, saying, “He is a true professional and a fantastic player for us. We all know his quality as a bowler—he’s as good as anyone in the world, if not better. He’s fully committed to the team and is a very polite young man.”
Despite the surrounding debate, Mustafizur continues to prove himself on the field. In this season’s BPL, he has taken nine wickets in five matches while conceding runs at an economy rate of 6.98. He has also been Rangpur’s go-to option in the death overs.
Arthur acknowledged this consistency, adding, “He’s very easy to manage. He just turns up every day and gives his best. What happened is genuinely disappointing. He had a very good contract with Kolkata Knight Riders, and it’s unfortunate.”
Kolkata Knight Riders had signed Mustafizur for INR 9.2 crore, the highest amount ever paid to a Bangladeshi cricketer in the IPL. Given that, some level of disappointment was inevitable. Asked whether he had spoken to Mustafizur about the issue, Arthur said, “Yes, we have talked. There’s a language barrier between us, but he understood what I was saying, and I understood him as well.”
