No moon of the holy month of Sha’ban (Hijri 1447) was sighted anywhere in the sky over Bangladesh on Monday.
As a result, the month of Rajab will complete 30 days on Tuesday, 20 January, and the month of Sha’ban will begin from Wednesday, 21 January. According to this calculation, the holy night of Shab-e-Barat will be observed across the country on the night of Tuesday, 3 February.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held on Monday evening at the Islamic Foundation’s conference hall in Baitul Mukarram. The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Md. Kamal Uddin.
The Islamic Foundation stated that the decision was made after reviewing reports from district administrations, the Foundation’s head and regional offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO).
Several senior government and Islamic Foundation officials were present at the meeting.
