Formal charges have been submitted in a crimes-against-humanity case over the 2016 killing of nine young men at a house in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur area, an incident alleged to have been staged as a “militant drama.” The case names eight accused, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The prosecution filed the charges on Thursday at the International Crimes Tribunal. Prosecutor Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim confirmed the development to journalists.
Besides Sheikh Hasina, the accused include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, ex–Inspector General of Police A.K.M. Shahidul Haque, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, and former Special Branch chief Monirul Islam, among others.
