At least 32 people were killed across the Gaza Strip on Saturday following multiple Israeli airstrikes, according to local authorities.

Gaza’s Civil Defense, run by Hamas, said the victims included women and children. In the southern city of Khan Younis, Israeli helicopters reportedly opened fire on tents sheltering displaced Palestinians.

Residents described Saturday’s attacks as the most intense since the second phase of the ceasefire began. The first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect last October through mediation led by then U.S. President Donald Trump, while the second phase started earlier this year.

The Israeli military has confirmed carrying out the strikes, claiming they were a response to Hamas violations of the ceasefire agreement on Friday. Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of breaching the truce since it came into force.

In a statement, the Israeli army said it detected fighters emerging from what it described as an underground militant facility in eastern Rafah, an area where Israeli forces remain deployed under the ceasefire terms. The military added that, together with Israel’s security agency, it targeted several locations across Gaza, including senior commanders, weapons storage sites, arms manufacturing facilities, and Hamas operational centers in central Gaza.

Hamas strongly condemned the airstrikes and urged the United States to take immediate action. The group said the latest attacks demonstrate that Israel continues what it called a brutal and genocidal war in Gaza despite the ceasefire.

Civil Defense officials reported that seven members of a displaced family were killed in Khan Younis. They said the strikes hit residential buildings, tents, shelters, and a police station.

Meanwhile, officials at Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital said an Israeli airstrike on an apartment building killed three children and two women.
