The Election Commission has officially published the gazette notification listing the winners of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The notification was issued late Friday night by Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
The gazette includes the names of the elected Members of Parliament along with their fathers’ or husbands’ names, mothers’ names, and addresses. Arrangements are now underway for the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected MPs.
On the same night, the Commission also released the official gazette for the referendum results. According to the published figures, 48,200,660 voters cast ballots in favor, while 22,071,726 voted against the proposal. A significant number of ballots—7,422,637—were declared invalid.
Sources at the Chief Adviser’s Office indicated that the current decision is for the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to administer the oath to the newly elected lawmakers. The swearing-in ceremony may take place on Monday or Tuesday. The new Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet could also take their oaths on the same day.
Under the Constitution, the Speaker of the 12th National Parliament, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, or a person nominated by her, is authorized to administer the oath. If this does not occur within three days, the CEC will conduct the ceremony within the following three days.
Voting was held in 299 of the 300 constituencies in Thursday’s election. On Friday, the Election Commission announced unofficial results for 297 seats. Gazette notifications for Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 have not yet been issued due to directives from the High Court.
Out of the 297 seats with declared results, the BNP secured 209 seats. The party’s candidates are also leading in the two constituencies where results are pending. Its allies won three additional seats. Jamaat-e-Islami secured 68 seats, while other partners within its 11-party electoral alliance won nine seats.
