The government is considering extending the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, although no final decision has been made yet. A source familiar with the matter told The Times of Dhaka that a decision could be reached during a Cabinet meeting.
Based on the expected sighting of the moon, Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall on March 21. Following this, the Ministry of Public Administration has already scheduled a five-day holiday from March 19 to March 23.
March 21, the day of Eid, is set as the official public holiday. In addition, March 19 and 20 before Eid and March 22 and 23 after Eid have been designated as holidays through executive order.
According to the ministry source, the holiday may be extended to accommodate public convenience. However, the final decision will be made in the Cabinet meeting, so no official announcement has been issued yet.
