Asif Nazrul Denies All Allegations of Corruption, Clarifies Position on Social Media
Former legal advisor to the caretaker government, Asif Nazrul, has publicly stated that he has never engaged in corruption at any point in his life, whether during his tenure in government or before or after. He addressed recent reports that have circulated about alleged corruption following the caretaker government’s departure, emphasizing that these claims are baseless.
On Wednesday night, Asif Nazrul shared a post on his verified Facebook page titled “Asif Nazrul’s Corruption?”, clarifying his stance:
In the post, he recalled an earlier rumor suggesting that he had purchased a house in the United States and that his family had moved there. Nazrul said he challenged YouTubers, journalists, and investigators to provide proof if such a property existed. After eight months, no evidence or documents could verify the claim. He emphasized that he does not own any property outside Bangladesh.
He noted that although these rumors subsided for a time, following the caretaker government’s departure, reports of his alleged corruption resurfaced online and were even published by media outlets critical of the previous administration. Nazrul stated that while he and his colleagues do not pay much attention to these claims, he feels compelled to address them for the sake of the people who trust and support him.
Key points from his statement include:
No Corruption: Nazrul asserts he has never committed any form of corruption. He has not accumulated new assets, opened any new bank accounts, or hidden any income.
No Nepotism: He emphasized that during his tenure, he never provided benefits to family members or relatives. Out of nearly 5,000 law officials recruited during his time, not a single relative received preferential treatment.
No Favoritism in Local Matters: He never used his position to benefit his hometown or any other area. While he did assist with minor development funding for the Lalbagh Shahi Mosque and contributed to improving Dhaka University sports facilities, he never granted favors to individuals outside official channels.
Nazrul concluded by acknowledging the false allegations against him over the years, stating that despite facing numerous baseless accusations, he has suffered no harm. He expressed faith in God’s justice, affirming that his integrity remains intact.
“Hassbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel” — “God is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs,” he added.
