Case Filed Against Nasiruddin Patwary Over Alleged Defamation of Mirza Abbas

A case has been filed against Nasiruddin Patwary, the chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party, on charges of intimidation and defamation involving Mirza Abbas, who serves as political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The court recorded the complainant’s statement and issued a summons ordering Patwary to appear before the court.

The complaint was submitted on Sunday morning to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Hasan Shahadat in Dhaka. The case was filed by Ashraful Islam, president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Ramna police station unit. The information was confirmed by the complainant’s lawyer Md. Amirul Islam Amir.

According to the complaint, Mirza Abbas was the BNP candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency in the 13th parliamentary election, while Nasiruddin Patwary contested from the same seat as the candidate of the National Citizen Party. After losing the election, Patwary allegedly continued to make defamatory remarks and accusations against his rival.

The complaint further claims that since the election, Patwary has repeatedly posted statements on social media and through online news outlets that the complainant describes as false, threatening, and damaging to Abbas’s reputation. On March 5, the complainant reportedly noticed that several online media platforms had published Patwary’s comments, which he alleges were defamatory and widely shared on social media.

The filing also accuses Patwary of deliberately spreading misleading and fabricated statements in an attempt to harm Abbas’s reputation and political career. It alleges that such remarks violated norms of conduct and were circulated online in ways that tarnished Abbas’s public image.

In the 13th parliamentary election from Dhaka-8, Mirza Abbas secured victory with 59,366 votes, while Nasiruddin Patwary received 54,127 votes.
