Dismissed Army Officer Afzal Naser Arrested in Mirpur

Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested former Lieutenant Colonel Md. Afzal Naser (61) from the Mirpur area of the capital. He was taken into custody late Sunday night.
DB Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam confirmed the arrest.
According to DB sources, Afzal Naser was detained following information obtained during the interrogation of individuals linked to the events of “1/11.” Among them are retired Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury and former Director General of DGFI, retired Lieutenant General Sheikh Mamun Khaled.
Masud Uddin Chowdhury was earlier arrested from his residence in Dhaka and later placed on remand in a case filed at Paltan Police Station. After an initial five-day remand, the court granted an additional six days for further questioning.
Sheikh Mamun Khaled was subsequently arrested and is currently on a five-day remand in connection with a murder case filed at Mirpur Police Station. He is also being questioned by DB officials.
The investigation is ongoing.
