Allegations of Extortion in Farmer Card Distribution at Khamarbari, Demand for Investigation
Serious allegations of large-scale extortion have surfaced in connection with the distribution of farmer cards at Khamarbari in the capital. It has been alleged that some influential individuals and officials are illegally collecting money from project stakeholders under the guise of farmer-related activities under the Department of Agricultural Extension.
According to the allegations, a group of individuals including Nure Alam Siddiqui Tuhin, AKM Badrul Haque, Muradul Hasan, Majedur Rahman, Sabbir, and Boni Amin Khan have collected approximately BDT 5 million from various project directors by using the name of the Prime Minister. The money was reportedly taken through intimidation and pressure. It is also stated that sufficient government funds have already been allocated for the farmer card distribution program.
The same group is also alleged to have previously collected around BDT 9 million in the name of the 2026 national parliamentary election. These incidents have created fear and anxiety among project officials. According to sources, such activities are damaging the image of the current government.
The allegations further claim that although the individuals were previously associated with a political party, they are now presenting themselves as members of another political group, leading to confusion and disruption in administrative activities.
Concerned parties have demanded a swift investigation into the matter and strict legal action against those responsible. They have also stressed the need to ensure transparency and maintain integrity in this important government program for farmers.
