The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions due to an active southwest monsoon. Rainfall is expected to range from 44–88mm in 24 hours in some areas, with isolated locations potentially receiving more than 88mm, according to the latest bulletin.
Maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to display local cautionary signal no. 3. This follows the formation of a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north-western Bay off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha, reported at 6:00am today.
The system is expected to strengthen, creating a steep pressure gradient over the northern Bay. As a result, gusty and squally conditions may impact maritime ports, the northern Bay, and nearby coastal areas of Bangladesh.
All fishing vessels and trawlers operating in the northern Bay and deep-sea areas are urged to stay close to shore and navigate with caution until further updates are issued.
