ASK expresses concern over forced public haircut incident

The legal rights group Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has voiced serious concern after a video circulated on social media showing a passerby being forcibly shaved and having tangled hair cut in public. The organization described the act as unlawful, inhumane, and a blatant violation of constitutional guarantees and human rights.

In a statement released on Thursday, ASK noted that such treatment constitutes not only a breach of personal freedom but also a direct assault on individual dignity. The group emphasized that Bangladesh’s Constitution upholds the right to live with dignity under the law (Article 31), guarantees life and personal liberty (Article 32), and prohibits cruel, degrading, or inhuman treatment (Article 35).

According to ASK, incidents like these spread fear and insecurity in society and undermine the rule of law. The group called on authorities to promptly identify and take legal measures against those responsible. It also urged the state to ensure that no citizen faces such degrading or unlawful treatment in the future.
