Attempted Murder in Sadar Upazila: Man’s Throat Slashed After Being Drugged
A man in Faridpur’s Sadar upazila was allegedly given sleeping pills and attacked with a sharp weapon by his wife and in-laws in an apparent attempt to kill him. The incident took place around 1:30 am on Friday night in Munshi village of the upazila.
Police have detained the victim’s wife, Laboni Akter (28), while her mother Shahida Begum (49) and grandmother Janaki Begum (62) have gone into hiding.
The victim, Forhad Bepari (35)—also known as Thandu—is a resident of Byaparidangi village under Chalanama area. He owns a workshop business in Dhaka. He married Laboni, daughter of expatriate Jahangir Mia from Munshi village under Bhashanchar Union.
According to locals and police sources, Forhad was served food laced with sleeping pills. Once he fell asleep, his wife, mother-in-law, and grandmother-in-law allegedly tried to slit his throat with a sickle. Before the attack, they had reportedly dug a hole on the verandah of an adjacent room—apparently to hide the body.
Hearing his screams, neighbors rushed in and rescued him. The three accused women fled before the locals arrived. Forhad was taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, and police were informed of the incident.
Family members and investigators said Forhad had recently given his wife and in-laws Tk 1.1 million to purchase land, but they allegedly misappropriated the money. Police believe the murder attempt was linked to this dispute.
Sadarpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sukdev Roy visited the scene around 11 am on Saturday. He told reporters that the attack appeared to be premeditated, likely motivated by financial gain. Police have detained Laboni and are preparing to file a case over the incident.
