An all-party protest rally has begun at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka against the recent attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, convenor of the Inqilab Manch. The event, which formally started at 3:00 PM on Monday, is attended by leaders and activists from various political parties, as well as social and cultural organizations.
Reports from the ground indicate that the number of participants began increasing well before the rally’s official start. Preparations were underway since early afternoon, with organizers arranging the stage and seating. Gradually, the Shaheed Minar premises transformed into a space for unified protest, with activists actively involved in coordinating the event.
Participants raised protest slogans in unison, declaring, “We will all be Hadi, we will speak truth to injustice,” and “Allahu Akbar.” Other slogans included, “One Hadi may bleed, but thousands of Hadis will rise.” They expressed their outrage over the attack and demanded swift justice for the perpetrators.
Before the rally formally began, cultural programs featuring songs and poetry recitals were held on stage to voice opposition to political violence and show solidarity with Sharif Osman Hadi. Performers highlighted the importance of peaceful political engagement and condemned the use of violence in democratic politics.
Many attendees strongly condemned the attack, calling for the immediate identification and prosecution of those responsible. Participants emphasized repeatedly that there is no place for violence in political expression.
The organizers stated that the purpose of the rally was to demonstrate a united stance against the attack on Hadi and to reaffirm opposition to violence in politics. They stressed that while political differences are natural, they must never escalate into violence.
Representatives from different political, social, and cultural groups joined the peaceful rally at Shaheed Minar, collectively demanding justice and an end to political violence.
Sharif Osman Hadi, a key organizer of the July mass uprising, serves as the convenor of the Inqilab Manch and is also the founder of the Inqilab Cultural Center in Dhaka. He had announced his candidacy as an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming national elections and had been actively engaging with voters in preparation.
On December 12, following Friday prayers, Hadi was attacked near Box-Calvert Road in Old Paltan, Dhaka, by two assailants on a motorcycle. One of the attackers fired at Hadi while he was on a moving rickshaw and fled the scene. He was initially admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital due to deteriorating health. He is now being sent to Singapore for advanced medical treatment. Doctors report that his condition remains critical.
