Fire in power plant in Sylhet

A fire has occurred at the Kumargaon power plant in Sylhet. The fire started at around 9 am on Monday. On receiving the information, five units of the fire service brought the fire under control in one and a half hours.

In this, there is temporary shutdown of electricity supply in some areas under the coverage of rural electricity including Sylhet city.

In this regard, Chief Engineer of Electricity Development Board Sylhet Sales and Distribution Division, Mohammad Abdul Qadir said, the high voltage wire of the rural electricity in the power station was torn and sparking occurred and the fire started. The air filter of the power plant caught fire. As a result, power supply has stopped in some sub-centres.

Deputy Assistant Director of Sylhet Fire Service Mohammad Abdur Rahman told Prothom Alo that five units of fire service went to the spot and started extinguishing the fire. The fire was brought under control around 10:30 am. However, the extent of the damage was not known initially.

Earlier on November 17, 2020, there was a fire in this power station, and electricity supply was stopped for 31 hours in the city.
