The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said that Udichi’s protest rally against the government’s decision to end the program within a specified time and questioning the law and order forces is highly undesirable and embarrassing.

DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) KN Roy Niyati informed this information in a press release around 12:30 on Monday night.

According to the press release, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has come to the notice of the Udichi artistes’ group’s performance ignoring the instructions issued by the government to ensure security during the Bengali New Year celebrations.

It is said that, naturally, it is the duty of the police to provide security during the New Year celebrations. It is desirable that all the people should fully cooperate in this security operation of the police. May this event of joy not turn into sadness. It is very regrettable and never desirable from a progressive cultural organization like Udichi to hold a protest event without following the necessary instructions given in the security regulations.

The organization of the event by the Udichi artists’ group to protest against the government’s decision and the speech given there is very disappointing. As citizens of the independent country gained through the Great War of Liberation, their actions are not expected in any way. Udichi has a history of extremist attacks on various events in the past, so it is expected that Udichi will respect the various security instructions given by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police in the future for the sake of their own safety and the safety of the people.

Earlier, citing security reasons, the government had given instructions to end the New Year celebrations by 6 pm like last few years. Dhaka University authorities said to finish all the activities on the campus by 5 pm. But Udichi declared that he would not obey the instructions. They perform a cultural program on Pahela Boishakh from 6 pm at Shah Bagh titled ‘Varshobaran Mane Na Chaitna’.
