China has said it believes Iran is capable of handling the situation well while protecting its sovereignty and dignity. They are also able to avoid further tensions in the Middle East.
China said these words in the context of Iran's revenge on Israel last weekend due to the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria.
On April 1, Israel launched a missile attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus. Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, the senior commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps' overseas Quds Force, was killed in the attack.
In retaliation, Iran launched hundreds of drone and missile attacks on Israel overnight last Saturday. Tel Aviv claims that most of Iran's drones and missiles are destroyed before reaching Israeli territory.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke on the phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian on Monday. Abdullahian briefed Wang on Iran's position in the phone call.
According to Chinese state news agency Xinhua on Tuesday, Wang said China appreciates Iran's firm stance on not targeting regional and neighboring countries.
Iran has expressed to Wang that its actions against Israel are limited. At the same time, they said that they did it for self-defense.
Wang said, China strongly condemns the attack on the Iranian embassy (consulate). They strongly oppose such activities. They consider this incident 'unacceptable'.
Wangke Abdullahian said Iran is aware of regional tensions. Tehran is interested in practicing moderation. Iran has no intention of further escalating tensions.
