In Gazipur, six wholesale shops storing potatoes, onions and flour were burnt down

Six wholesale shops temporarily stocking onions, rice, potatoes and flour were gutted in a fire at Tongi Bazar in Gazipur. The incident took place in Tongi Bazar at around 12:15 pm on Wednesday. Later, six units of Tongi and Uttara Fire Service came and brought the fire under control in about an hour.

The burnt shops are Rupsi Bangla Rice Agency, Messrs. Saeed & Brothers, Messrs. Ibrahim Rice, Mama Enterprises, Shahparan Banijaloy and Mithali Traders. Various products including onion, rice, potato, flour were stored in these shops.

According to Tongi Fire Service and local sources, some of the wholesale shops were closed after 11 pm on Wednesday, and some were preparing to close. Around 12:30 a.m., smoke suddenly started coming from a shop. In a moment the fire was seen. The fire was spreading fast. Shopkeepers and nearby people immediately tried to control the fire. On receiving the information, six units of Tongi and Uttara Fire Service reached the spot and put out the fire after about an hour. Meanwhile, six shops were burnt down.

Eyewitnesses and businessmen of Tongi market. Merajul Islam told media that the traders keep various products of daily use here. Later they sell it at wholesale price to buyers or other traders. Most of the shops were closed last night. In the meantime, the incident of fire happened.

Warehouse Inspector of Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defense Office. Jannatul Naeem told media that it was possible to bring the fire under control at 12:50 pm. Six shops were burnt in this incident. However, there were no casualties. It was initially reported that the fire started due to an electrical short circuit. This will be investigated.
