The connection of the country’s second submarine cable (SIMUI-5) has been stopped. It is disrupting the internet service. This situation has arisen due to fiber cable break in Singapore.
The problem started after 12 midnight on Friday (April 19). Internet service providers and customers have reported the slowness of the Internet.
Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC), a state-owned bandwidth provider, has verified the information.
BSCPLC Managing Director Mirza Kamal Ahmed said that 1,600 Gbps bandwidth is provided in the country with SIMUI-5. All of it is closed now. We are trying to make an alternative arrangement with SIMUI-4 (First Submarine Cable).
He said, due to fiber cable break in Singapore, a similar situation has been created in Bangladesh as well as in some other countries. It will be known by Saturday afternoon when it will be normal.
Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) president Imdadul Haque said that customers are calling us and complaining about slow internet. We are trying to convince them.
