The government has announced the closure of all primary schools until May 2 due to heatwave

There is intense heat throughout the country. Meanwhile, schools and colleges have opened from Saturday. In the last two days, many students and teachers have fallen ill due to heat. Several have died. In this situation, there is a question about keeping schools, colleges and madrasas open in the heat.

All government primary schools, Child Welfare Trust schools and non-formal education bureau learning centers in the country have been declared closed till next Thursday (May 2) due to the severe heatwave across the country.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education announced this in a press release on Monday. The press release mentioned that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the health and safety of the child students.

Primary to higher secondary schools opened on Sunday after a week long holiday due to severe heat wave and Eid, fasting. However, a new holiday was announced in some districts after one day of classes. But primary schools were announced to remain open. Now it has been declared closed again.

Meanwhile, amid the ongoing heatwave, the High Court has ordered the closure of classes in primary, secondary schools and madrasas till next Thursday.

The High Court bench of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Khizir Hayat gave this order on Monday.

In today’s order, the court said that teaching and examination activities will continue as usual in educational institutions where classrooms are equipped with air conditioning (AC). Besides, if an exam day is fixed in any institution, the exam will be held as per the schedule.
