MV Abdullah is 500 nautical miles away from Chittagong

The Bangladeshi ship MV Abdullah, freed from Somali pirates, is 500 nautical miles away from Chittagong port. The ship’s master Captain Mohammad Abdur Rashid told Jago News that the ship will reach Qutubdia next Monday night.

On Saturday (May 11) at 9:30 pm, he told Jago News, ‘MV Abdullah is currently 500 nautical miles away from Chittagong Port. The ship is expected to reach Qutubdia next Monday night.

Earlier, the management company of the ship informed that the ship will reach the outer anchorage of Chittagong port on May 15 after discharging some cargo of limestone at Qutubdia. MV Abdullah will arrive at the port jetty after discharging the remaining cargo there.

While returning from Mozambique to United Arab Emirates with coal, the hostage ship is carrying 56 thousand metric tons of limestone on its way to the country. The ship was transiting the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf in the early hours of April 30.

Mehrul Karim, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SR Shipping, owned by Chittagong’s Kabir Group, said, ‘MV Abdullah will unload the ship’s cargo at Qutubdia and anchor at Chittagong Beach. Then the sailors will meet their families or go home.

On March 4, MV Abdullah left the port of Maputo, Mozambique, with 55,000 tons of coal for the Hamriyah port of the United Arab Emirates. On March 12, Somali pirates took the MV Abdullah ship hostage with 23 Bangladeshi sailors. The ship was hijacked in the Indian Ocean, 600 nautical miles from the country’s coast.

After 32 days, the pirates freed the ship on April 14. It then sailed off the coast of Somalia to the United Arab Emirates. The ship reached the outer anchorage of Al Hamriyah port on the afternoon of 21 April after a week long voyage.
