The decision to stop battery-powered auto-rickshaws is cancelled

General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina canceled the decision taken regarding the banning of battery-powered three-wheeled auto-rickshaws in Dhaka city today.

This information was given by Obaidul Quader at the first anniversary rally of Awami Olama League at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Monday afternoon.

Quader said, taking into consideration the current market situation, the Chief Minister has changed the decision for the benefit of low-income people.

On May 15, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader ordered the banning of dangerous battery-powered rickshaws plying in Oligli of the capital. Later, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) said that legal action will be taken if battery or motorized rickshaws or vans and discolored, dilapidated, rusted motor vehicles are not stopped in Dhaka city.

Meanwhile, after this directive, the autorickshaw drivers protested at various places including Mirpur in the capital from Sunday. A police box in Kalshi was also set on fire. They protested at various places including Rampura in the capital on Monday.

In the meantime, the police have filed four cases in three police stations of the capital in connection with the fire at the police box in Kalshi.
