The center of Cyclone Rimal has started crossing the coast. It started crossing the coast of Bangladesh after 6 pm on Sunday (May 26). Cyclone will cross the coast in next 5 to 6 hours.

In a briefing tonight, the head of the storm warning center. Shamim Hasan Bhuiyan said that the wind speed at the center of the cyclone is 90 kilometers per hour. Which can increase up to 120 km in the form of gusty winds. At high tide, there is a risk of 8 to 10 feet higher than normal tides along the coast.

According to the Meteorological Office, the diameter of the center of the cyclone is 64 km. Which is flowing over an area of ​​400 to 500 km. As a result, the storm will affect almost all areas of the country.

The Meteorological Office also said that the cyclone will subside in the form of heavy rain in the next 5-7 hours. Monday (May 27) will continue to rain throughout the day but the heaviest rain will occur in Sylhet region.

Besides, Distress Signal No. 10 will remain in effect for Payra and Mongla seaports during Cyclone Rimal. Besides, Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong seaports have been asked to display distress signal number 9 and river ports to display distress signal number 4.

Earlier, Payra and Mongla seaports were asked to show distress signal number 10 to avoid cyclone damage. Coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali and their nearby islands and chars will be under the 10th distress signal.

Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong seaports are asked to display distress signal number 9. The coastal districts of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur and their remote islands and chars will be covered by the 9-distress signal, said the Meteorological Office.
