Chuadanga and Meherpur have lost power due to Cyclone Rimmel

Stormy winds and heavy rains in Meherpur and Chuadanga due to Cyclone Rimal in Bay of Bengal. As a result, the electricity connection was cut off in the district including Meherpur city at around 12 o’clock on Sunday night. Today, Monday, it is in that state until half past one.

Meanwhile, power supply was cut off in Chuadanga early this morning after a tree fell on the transmission line. After nine o’clock in the morning, electricity came in phases in different areas.

Gusty winds started blowing in different areas of Meherpur after 10 pm yesterday. When the wind speed increased around 12 o’clock in the night, the electricity connection was cut off in various areas including the district town. Electricity did not come until one o’clock today.
Swadesh Kumar Ghosh, manager of Meherpur Palli Vidyut Samiti, said, “Electricity-transmission lines have been cut in various areas of the district due to Cyclone Rimal. The electricity pole has fallen. Power connection will not be possible until these are fixed.’

Meanwhile, relief has returned among the farmers due to heavy rains. Sohel Rana, a resident of Kulbaria village in Sadar Upazila, said, “There has not been much rain in the last three months. The rains during this time are good for all crops including paddy, jute, coppice of early varieties.

It started raining in Chuadanga yesterday afternoon. Storms with heavy rain from midnight. A tree fell on the transmission line from the local power grid station to the substation causing a power outage in Chuadanga early this morning.

Chuadanga is supplied with electricity through eight feeders. But due to fault in the transmission line, the continuous power supply was stopped from 5 am to 9:30 am today. After that, electricity supply to different areas started gradually.

Palash Kumar Ghosh, executive engineer of Chuadanga office of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (Ozopadico) said that a tree branch fell on the transmission line from the grid substation located at Zafarpur in Chuadanga to the substation transmission line of Ozopadico and the jumper became loose and the power supply was stopped. Power supply has been restored after speedy repairs.

Tahmina Nasreen, senior observer of Hatkaluganj Meteorological Observatory of Chuadanga Municipal Area, said that 53.5 millimeters of rain was recorded from Sunday afternoon to Monday 12 noon. Due to the impact of the cyclone, the maximum wind speed of 44 km was blown over the district.
