Meteorologist Rezaul Karim Khan of Patenga Meteorological Office told Jago News, “From Sunday (May 26) 6 pm to Monday 6 pm, 235.4 millimeters of rainfall has been recorded in Chittagong in 24 hours. More than normal rains have caused waterlogging across the city. Rain will continue tomorrow too.

This is the second time in this season that the residents of Chittagong city had to fall into the flood. Flooding in Chittagong city due to continuous rain has taken a serious form. A large area including an electrical sub-station of Chittagong city has been submerged in rain water. 20 percent of customers of Chittagong are without electricity. On the other hand, the operation of Chittagong port was not normal even after two days due to rain and wind. The people of the city are suffering.

A young man named Saiful Islam Hriday (25) died when the wall of a building under construction collapsed in Textile Z residential area of ​​Bayezid Bostami police station in the midst of heavy rain.

Earlier, the rain started in Chittagong after 10 o’clock in the night of Robra. Tidal water is added to it. Around 1:30 pm, waterlogging started to occur in different areas of the city. As a result, thousands of people living in the lower areas of the city spent sleepless nights. Flooding has become permanent since Monday morning.

Chawkbazar, Muradpur, Bahaddarhat, Badurtala, Shulakbahar, Mohammadpur, Kapasgola, Katalganj, Baklia, Chandgaon, Agrabad CDA residential area, Chaktai-Khatunganj, Kalarpol, Barapol, Halishahar and other areas have been submerged. Latest news of flooding in these areas was received at 6 pm today.

From Monday morning, people of various professions suffered by going out on the road. Among them, the situation of the city’s promoter intersection and Bahaddarhat is the most pathetic. Rickshaws are pushing waist-deep water on this road, pedestrians are walking in the water.
Nasir Hossain, a resident of Chawkbazar area of ​​the city, said that he came out of his house to go to office in the morning and saw water in our area. After crossing it with great difficulty, we came to Bahaddarhat junction. There is also water. Also drowned in Muradpur area. I reached the oxygen intersection in two hours by rickshaw and walking.

Housewife Najma Begum of Chandgaon Samsherpara said, ‘Water entered the house at 11 o’clock. Now there is knee-deep water in the house. Never before has there been so much water. I am sitting on the bed with my husband and children. Cooking is stopped, I am eating from the hotel.

Earlier on May 6, Chittagong city was drowned in one round of flooding. In the afternoon of that day, the low-lying areas of the port city were submerged in continuous rain for an hour. Somewhere, the water accumulated from ankle to knee that day.
