South City has announced that Dhaka Newmarket waterlogging will be resolved

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced its activities and plans to resolve the waterlogging of Dhaka New Market. DSCC Public Relations Officer Abu Nasher informed about this plan in a press release on Monday (May 27) afternoon.

It is reported that Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas held a meeting with concerned stakeholders including Border Guard Bangladesh, Rajuk, Dhaka North City Corporation, WASA on July 10 last year to resolve waterlogging in Newmarket area.

As per the decision of the meeting, inspection was conducted inside the BGB area in joint coordination with DSCC and BGB. In that light, estimates have been prepared and approved for the purpose of de-watering within BGB and Newmarket. There is currently a tender process for the establishment of new sewerage connection.

Besides, the survey work is ongoing by the engineering department of the region at the field level for the preparation of the estimate to solve the flooding of Naim Road.

At the same time, Mayor Sheikh Tapas has spoken to the media several times fearing flooding in some areas including Newmarket and Green Road.

In the press conference organized on the occasion of the completion of four years of taking charge on May 19, the mayor said, ‘As the implementation of the development projects of other government agencies is ongoing, at present some specific places like Kamalapur and Green Road area (mainly the ongoing development work of the elevated expressway) and New Market area, Old Dhaka and a few parts of the city. There is no flooding anywhere except the area. We have taken initiatives to resolve waterlogging in those areas. Inshallah, soon the waterlogging problem will be solved in those places too.
