The cargo ship stuck in the Chittagong port channel (shipway) was removed after about two and a half hours of effort. The ship was taken out to sea after four o’clock on Tuesday afternoon. Port officials said that the ship will be refloated at the jetty after the fault has been rectified.

MV Shi Ji Fen stuck with the buoy in the port channel of Karnaphuli River along the Patenga Container Terminal around noon today while being taken from the sea to the jetty. Shi Ji Fen was one of the 18 ships that were evacuated from the jetty last Sunday due to the cyclone. Today the accident happened while bringing from the sea to the jetty.

If asked, the port secretary said. Omar Farooq told Prothom Alo that the ship moved to one side of the port channel due to a mechanical fault on the way from the sea to the jetty. At that time, the ship’s propeller got stuck with a buoy crane in the port channel. Later, the vessel was towed out to sea with the help of four tugboats.

The port secretary said that there was no disruption to the movement of ships in the port due to the accident. All ships from the sea have been brought to the jetty as per the scheduled schedule. The ship will be docked at the jetty after rectification.

Riaz Uddin Khan, head of Trust Shipping, the local agent of the ship, told Prothom Alo that 25,000 tons of steel coils were brought to the Chinese-flagged ship. But around 500 tons of coils were left. But the ship was taken out to sea from the jetty on Sunday due to a typhoon. The accident happened today while the ship was being towed back to the jetty.
