Higher profits of the traders is the key reason behind price hike in daily commodities : Home Minster

Prices of daily commodities have increased due to Ramadan. Some products have gone beyond the purchasing power of common people. In this situation, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that the reason for the increase in the prices of daily commodities is the higher profits of the traders.

 

He said this in response to a question from reporters on Saturday morning after the inauguration ceremony of Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Security Course at Bangladesh Police Staff College in Mirpur, capital.

The Home Minister said that the reason for the increase in prices is more profit than extortion, and Police-RAB is in a strict position to prevent extortion. What is being sold at 20 taka in Karwan Bazar is being sold at 40 taka a short distance away. The price of goods is more influenced by the thought of higher profits of traders than by extortion. Asaduzzaman Khan said, the Dhaka-Chittagong highway has already been brought under camera to stop extortion. In future, all highways will be covered by cameras.

 

In response to the question of how to take action against those who are increasing the prices of everyday products by making excessive profit, he said that apart from the law and order forces, various forces including consumer rights are working here. Whenever it comes to the attention of the law enforcement forces, the law enforcement forces perform their assigned duties. By discussing with those who are making more profit, it will be possible to prevent more profit if the sale of daily necessities starts in the neighbourhood.

 

When asked about the reason for the frequent fires, the Home Minister said, I have seen two or four big fires in a few months. There was damage to property. An investigation into the fire on Bailey Road in the capital is underway.
