In Sherpur’s Nalitabari upazila, a black Friesian bull has been named ‘Sultan’. The length of the cow is about 8 and a half feet and the height is 5 feet 8 inches. It weighs about 33 maunds. Akbar Ali, a resident of Gollarpar Nayapara village in the upazila, prepared the bull for the sacrifice. But Sultan is being taken to Dhaka for sale due to not getting the expected price in the area.

This bull was born three years ago in Akbar Ali’s farm. Last year, the price of the bull increased by five and a half lakh taka during Eid. But it was not sold as it was not fully prepared for sacrifice. Akbar Ali has raised the price of the bull to 15 lakhs. People from different places are flocking to see the bull every day.

Akbar Ali said, for three years, the bull is being nurtured like a child. Raised it naturally. Gave moderate food. If more food was given, the weight would be six to seven more. However, most of the cows become sluggish if they are overweight. But his sultan is very lively. He also said that he thought he sold Sultan from the farm. But no one could beat the price of such a big bull. So he is taking the bull to Dhaka for sale.

It was seen on the ground in Nayapara village on Tuesday afternoon, keeping the huge bull in a tin shed farm in front of Akbar Ali’s house. There are two or three more cows. Sultan stood calmly, almost touching the rice of the house. Akbar Ali and his son Taufiq Omar tended the bull

Tawfiq Omar said, Sultan is very calm but sometimes gets restless. There is a different feeling in movement. It takes six to eight people to pull out the bull. Grass, hay, chaff, maize and salt water are given as food. Feed is being fed for three months. Sultan eats about 300 to 400 taka per day. The bull is regularly bathed twice. People throng the farm every day to see the bull.

According to the upazila livestock office, there is a demand of 16 thousand 320 cows in the upazila for Eid al-Adha. Against this, 17 thousand 480 cows are ready for sacrifice. In upazila there are four to five union-based huts along with four permanent animal huts. A few teams of mobile medics are working at the upazila livestock office in these markets.

Upazila Livestock Office Veterinary Surgeon Abu Saim told media that the bull is the biggest in the upazila. All vaccines are given at the right time. Not affected by any disease. They want to sell the bull at a fair price.
