Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar special train started after being closed for 12 days

After being closed for 12 consecutive days, special trains on the Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar route have been restarted from Wednesday. The special train departed from Chittagong at 7 am today and reached Cox’s Bazar iconic railway station at 10:20 am. The same train is scheduled to leave Cox’s Bazar for Chittagong at 7 pm.

However, this train will run temporarily till June 24 on the occasion of Eid. Divisional Railway Manager of Chittagong. Saiful Islam Media confirmed the matter and said that the special train has been started from today. It is allowed to run till June 24. It will continue till then.

Earlier on April 8, the railway authorities launched the special train on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar route. It was closed on May 30. The train was stopped due to engine and locomaster problems. But there are allegations that this special train was stopped due to the pressure of landlords. Secretary General of Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury made this complaint in a press statement. He demanded to run this train permanently.

En route, the train stops and transports passengers at Sholshahar, Janalihat, Patia, Dohazari, Satkania, Chakaria, Dulahajara and Ramu stations. There are 438 seats in 10 compartments. In special trains, the minimum fare is Tk 45 for luxury class seats, Tk 185 for first class seats. However, this fare till Cox’s Bazar is 185 and 340 taka respectively. Bus fare from minimum 420 to maximum 800 taka. 54 thousand 814 passengers were transported by this train in just 52 days before its closure. The income is 1 crore 4 lakh 41 thousand taka. That means the average income is two lakh taka per day. It is known that other local trains do not earn this amount in the eastern part of the railway.
