Dhaka North City Corporation has started an eviction drive at the illegally built Sadiq Agro Farm occupying canal and road space in the capital’s Mohammadpur.

The evacuation operation started on Thursday (June 27) around 10:30 am.

Earlier on Wednesday (June 26) a letter was given to the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from the Property Department of DNCC asking for deployment of necessary police force to raid Sadiq Agro. The letter signed by Chief Property Officer Mohammad Mahe Alam was given to DMP.

In the letter, it is said that the illegal constructions of Sadiq Agro Limited will be removed in place of the canals and roads along with the illegal constructions in the vicinity of Mohammadpur embankment under Zone-5 under Dhaka North City. The evacuation operation will be carried out on Thursday morning. At this time, three platoons of male police force and one platoon of female police force will be required.

In this regard, an official of Zone-5 of Dhaka North City told the media that we have information that they (Sadiq Agro) have filled the Ramchandrapur canal and farmed it. They were given notice earlier too. But the farm authorities did not care about any of these issues.

Incidentally, Dhaka North City Chief Executive Officer Mir Khairul Alam said that the recent discussion and criticism about that farm has nothing to do with this campaign. The owner of this sadiq agro farm is Imran Hossain, president of Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association (BDFA), an organization of cattle farmers.
