The water level of all the rivers except Ghaghat in Gaibandha has risen again due to intermittent rains and inflows from upstream. The water in the Brahmaputra river, Teesta and Kartwar rivers has increased in the last 24 hours till 3 pm on Sunday. But the water of all the rivers is flowing below the boundary line. A few days ago, all the rivers in Gaibandha had risen and flooded the lower areas.

According to the sources of Gaibandha Water Development Board (PUBO), in the last 24 hours, the water of Brahmaputra river has increased by 4 cm at Tistamukhghat point of Phulchhari upazila, the water of Karatoa river has increased by 22 cm at Chakarhimapur point of Gobindganj upazila and the water of Teesta has increased by 12 cm at Kaunia point near Sundarganj upazila. At the same time the water level of Ghaghat river has decreased by 6 cm at the new bridge point in the district town.

At 12 noon today, Brahmaputra water flows 196 cm below Vipatseema, Ghaghat water 199 cm, Kartwa water 360 cm and Teesta water 3 cm. 36 mm of rain has been recorded in the last 24 hours.

Gaibandha Paubo Executive Engineer Hafizul Haque said over the phone that the water level of the river has increased due to the upstream flow and heavy rain. However, the water of all the rivers is flowing far below the boundary line.

Meanwhile, water has started entering the lower areas of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila’s Kamarjani and Mollarchar, Phulchhari Upazila’s Erendabari, Fazlupur and Kanchipara and Sundarganj Upazila’s Tarapur and Haripur Union due to rising water.
