In this month of July, the country as a whole may receive more rain than normal. The Meteorological Office has also said that due to heavy rain, flooding may occur in different parts of the country.

The expert committee formed to make long-term forecasts of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has given this forecast on Sunday (July 1). The regular meeting of the committee was held at the Dhaka storm warning center of the Meteorological Department and through video conference.

The director of the department and the chairman of the expert committee. Azizur Rahman presided over it.

The month-long forecast says that one to two low pressures may develop in the Bay of Bengal in July. One of which may develop into a monsoon depression. Apart from this, moderate thunderstorms with lightning may occur in the north, north-west and central regions of the country for three to four days. There may be light thunder storm with lightning for five-six days across the country.

Monsoon heavy rains in July may lead to short to medium flood conditions in northern, northeastern, northwestern, north-central and central parts of the country. On the other hand, short-term flash floods may occur in some parts of the south-eastern hilly basin.

On the other hand, one to two isolated mild (36-38 degrees) heatwaves may occur during this month despite heavy rains. Day and night temperatures may be slightly higher than normal, the Meteorological Office said.

Meanwhile, in June, rainfall was 9 percent less than normal across the country. Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions received more than normal rainfall and Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions received less than normal rainfall.

Due to active monsoon, there is heavy to moderate rainfall in some parts of the country during this month. The highest daily rainfall of this month was recorded in Sylhet on June 8, 257 mm. Mild to moderate heat wave occurs from June 1 to 19 and June 23 to 28.

In this month, the highest temperature in the country was recorded in Rajshahi at 39.6 Celsius. During this month, the maximum and minimum temperatures in the country were 1.7 degrees Celsius and 1.30 degrees Celsius higher than normal respectively and the average temperature across the country was 1.5 degrees Celsius higher.

Meteorologist Monowar Hossain told Jago News about this month-long forecast, “The low pressure that is visible in this month is monsoon low pressure. This will result in heavy rainfall. But there will be heat along with the rain. It may rain in next few days in Dhaka. After a week, the rainfall of Dhaka will decrease a little.
