The school will open next Wednesday, on the way to the dormitory, 2 students of the primary school have been reported missing after the boat sank in the Prawn Jhiri near the Sangu River in Thanchi, Bandarban. They have not yet been found or rescued.

The incident took place on Monday (July 1) at 9:30 am in Chingri Jhiri area near Padmukh of the upazila. Missing in this incident is Shanti Rani Tripura (10) daughter of Mutijung Tripura of Ward No. 5 Harish Chandra Para area of No. 2 Tindu UP. The other Phulvani Tripura (9) is the daughter of Nilapru Tripura of the same area.

According to local sources, at 9:30 in the morning Shanti Rani Tripura and Phulbani Tripura upazila headquarters were going to the boat with 5-6 people from Harish Chandra Para. On reaching the middle of Jhiri, the boat sank due to strong current. Meanwhile, the others swam to the shore and the two students were missing.

Both of them live in Harishchandra neighborhood in Durgam Hill. They studied at Timongpara Government Primary School near Upazila Sadar from a missionary hostel. Locals said that the school will open on Wednesday, so the boat capsized while they were going to the dormitory.

Meanwhile, the police and fire service officials said that the two children could not go to the spot to rescue the two children due to high water in the Sangu river and disruption of mobile phone communication.

In this regard, Tindu UP Chairman Bhagyachandra Tripura said that two students studying in the 3rd and 4th grade of Harishchandra Para went missing after the boat sank on their way to the upazila headquarters. Efforts are underway to rescue them.

On the other hand, there is a risk of mountain collapse due to continuous rain. There is a risk of flooding in the river due to rising water from Sangu upstream. If the rains continue, the lowlands of Thanchi may be submerged. And residents living at risk in the mountains have been miked to evacuate to safe havens

In this regard, Thanchi Executive Officer (UNO) Mohammad Mamun said, I have heard the news that two school students went missing after sinking a boat in the river near Sangu river. Looking through the public representatives there.
