Talked to a young man named Javed in the hill area of ​​Tankir. He also lives in a tin house in a hillock. When asked why he did not go to a safe shelter, Javed said, ‘We are not at risk here. Landslides do not happen.

According to Hill Management Committee, there are currently 6,558 vulnerable settlements in 26 hills of Chittagong city. Among them, there are more than 4500 vulnerable settlements in the city’s Kattali land circle. The hills under Akbarshah police station number 1, 2 and 3 adjacent to Jheel are included in this circle. Most families live here. But the families are living there with the risk of landslides in mind.

When asked, Kattali Land Circle Assistant Commissioner (Land) Arafat Siddiqui told the media that miking has been going on for the past week. Local officials have been asked to warn residents of the hills. Evacuation to safety is also advised. However, Arafat Siddiqui said that no one moved. He said that maybe no one went to the shelter because it was not strict.

Meanwhile, continuous rains since this morning have caused waterlogging in some areas of Chittagong city. Due to obstruction in the drainage system, the flow of water is obstructed and water accumulates on the roads. Pedestrians and passengers have suffered.

This morning, there is knee-deep water on one side of the road at GEC intersection in the city. Traffic has been obstructed. Water freezes in the morning rain. People are suffering due to the accumulation of water in important junctions of the city. Many people use alternative roads to reach their destinations. It takes more time for them to reach their destination. Apart from this, water has accumulated on Panchlaishe road in the city due to the morning rain.

Nasreen Akhtar, who works in a private office at Prawartak Mor, said that her house is in the wireless area of ​​Zakir Hossain Road in the city. He was coming from home to office like everyday. But when he came to the GEC intersection, he saw knee-deep water. Then we had to use a rickshaw to come by another road.

About the accumulation of water at GEC intersection, Deputy Chief Cleaning Officer of City Corporation Morshedul Islam told Prothom Alo that there is a 100 feet long drain under the road from City Bank end to Central Plaza at GEC intersection. As the drain is under the road, it is not possible to clean it regularly. The flow of water is obstructed due to not being able to clean it. Due to this water accumulation has caused flooding. The same happened last year.

According to information from the Chittagong office of the Meteorological Department, 82 mm of rain has been recorded in Chittagong in the last 24 hours (from 12 noon on Monday to 12 noon on Tuesday).
