Local residents and public representatives said that suddenly, for more than an hour at night, loud explosions were heard intermittently from different areas of Maungdoo Township in Myanmar. It is believed that continuous explosions and heavy shelling are happening in different areas of Maungdu Town for several days. Perhaps government forces are dropping heavy ammunition from warplanes at night to recapture some of the outposts that the rebels have captured. Teknaf is shaking with the sound of all those explosions.

Panel Mayor Mujibur Rahman of Teknaf Municipality said that the local residents saw the warplanes flying across the Myanmar border. Due to the violence, there is a fear of Rohingya infiltration through various points on the border.

Sabrang Union Parishad Chairman Noor Hossain said Teknaf along with Sabrang was shaken by the sound of such a terrible explosion at night. After that, since this morning, one after another, the sound of mortar shell explosions is heard.

According to multiple sources on the border, the country’s armed group Arakan Army has been involved in a conflict with the government forces for more than four months in the Rakhine state of Myanmar. Meanwhile, the Arakan Army has taken over more than 20 border posts and several army barracks of the Border Guard Police (BGP). Now the two sides are fighting fiercely to capture Maungdu Town.
