Railway blockade of students is going on in Chittagong demanding reform of quota system by canceling unreasonable and discriminatory quota in all grades in government jobs. Under the banner of anti-discrimination student movement, the students of Chittagong University and its affiliated colleges started a protest by blocking the railway line in Dewanhat area of the city from 11:25 am today. At this time, trains from Chittagong to Dhaka, Chandpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Cox's Bazar were stuck. Although the trains stopped running, railway officials termed it as a schedule disaster.
On the surface, it can be seen that hundreds of thousands of students are protesting by occupying the railway track in Dewanhat area of the city. At this time, they said, "Let the quota system be abolished, the talented get freedom"; 'Abolish Grandchild Quota'; They were chanting slogans like 'Poshya Kotar Kabar De'.
When asked to know, Mohammad Russell Ahmed, the coordinator of Chittagong University anti-discrimination student movement, said that they will keep the rail blockade until sunset today. If someone asks them to withdraw their movement blockade, then let them come before the sun sets. Because, they will not withdraw the program until the demands are met.
Manager of Chittagong Railway Station. Moniruzzaman said that the schedule of several trains has been disrupted due to the agitating students. The last Dhaka-bound Mahanagar Express train is scheduled to leave at 12:30 PM but has not left the station yet. Trains will not run until students leave.
Demonstration at Sholashar railway station
The agitating students came to the city by train leaving the campus. As per the regular schedule, this train leaves the campus at 9:20 AM. However, in the face of the students' demands, the train left at 9:40. Later it reached Sholashar at 10:15. It used to leave from Sholashar railway station at 10:45 for the campus in regular schedule. However, the students demanded to take the train to Dewanhat in the city. But the railway officials did not accept it.
It can be seen on the surface, the students blocked the office of the station master of Sholshahar demanding to take the shuttle train to Dewanhat. Students raised various slogans demanding cancellation of railway pet quota. Later, on the demand of the students, the railway authorities allowed the shuttle train to be taken to Dewanhat at 11:00 am.
If you want to know, Sholshahar Stationmaster Md. Zainul Abedin Media said that the students were demanding to take the train to Dewan Hat. They could not give permission as they did not get the instructions from the authorities.
