Students of Barisal University on the highway demanding cancellation of quota, passengers suffer

The agitating students have blocked the Dhaka-Barisal and Barisal-Kuakata highways demanding the cancellation of the quota system in government jobs and the retention of the 2018 circular. Students of Government Brajmohan (BM) College of Barisal and University of Barisal simultaneously occupied two parts of this highway with a protest march at 11 am on Wednesday. Due to this, the road communication of the entire southern region including Barisal has been cut off. Many passengers and cargo vehicles are stuck on the highway. Passengers have suffered greatly.

On Wednesday morning, students gathered at the Barisal University campus as per the pre-announcement. Later they protested in the campus. Then he sat down on the Barisal-Kuakata highway in front of the main gate of the university. There they set fire to tires and created obstacles on the highway. Despite the clouds, sun and rain, they sit on the highway and chant slogans for their demands.

During the rally, the students said that they will not leave the streets until their demands are met. There is no scope for confusion, temptation, pressure, fear. Students across the country are united in their demand today. A student said, ‘We respect the order given by the Appellate Division. But our movement is not against the judgment in the court. Our movement is not against quota, our movement is for quota reform.

Due to the road blockade, the road communication between Barisal and the southern districts of Jhalkathi, Barguna, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Bhola was stopped. Numerous passengers and cargo vehicles were stranded at both ends of the road. Common people suffer. Abdur Rahman, a passenger of a stuck bus, expressed his anger and said, “We are having a lot of trouble traveling due to the road blockade. People like us have to suffer. This movement needs a solution as soon as possible. So that the suffering of the general public is reduced.
